Chronology of events relating to the Sydney Place trial
1. Bathwick Estate residents received a letter on December 12 2023 informing us of a trial to make Sydney Place a no-through road. There was NO consultation with Bathwick Estate residents. The only consultation to take place was within a 200m radius of Sydney Place excluding the Bathwick Estate
2. BERA held a meeting on Tuesday 9 January to discus residents concerns about the upcoming trial of the through-traffic restriction on Sydney Road at the junction with the New Sydney Place. Mark Thurstain has written a letter on behalf of BERA expressing our concerns about the proposal to Councillor David Wood. If you are unhappy about the proposals we suggest that you also email David Wood ([email protected]) using some of the information below as soon as possible
3. Petition created in January by Madeline Blackburn to protest against the road closure now has over 4,700 signatures:

4. BERA were informed that the Sydney Place Trial is going ahead 'at pace'

5. On Monday 12 February ITV and the BBC came to film a number of BERA and other Bathonians concerned about the road closure, including residents from Bathampton, Bathford and Daniel Street. Manda Rigby, our local councillor responsible for transport, was also interviewed. Please see the attached video:

5. A joint LN Action Group is meeting meeting on Thursday 15 February to discuss the proposals.
6. A protest is taking place on Monday 19 February outside The Guildhall at 9.30am
7. The next BERA meeting to discuss Sydney Place will take place on Tuesday 12 March in the Sydney Gardens Community Pavilion at 7.30pm
8. The next general BERA meeting will take place in the Sydney Gardens Pavilion on Monday 18 March at 7.30pm. Anyone from the Bathwick Estate is welcome to attend
9. Our community focused AGM will take place on Tuesday 23 April at Burdall's Yard at 7pm. It willa fantastic opportunity to meet neighbours, socialise and find out more about current issues impacting the estate
